SMARTbiomed is a newly established collaboration between research institutions in Denmark and the University of Oxford. SMARTbiomed will support a critical mass of researchers who focus on method and software development for analysis and inference from large-scale, multimodal biomedical data to advance understanding, treatment and prevention of human disease. SMARTbiomed research will bridge omics and clinical big data which addresses a vision that translation of research advances from omics-based research will be facilitated by close integration with, and knowledge of, clinical data including electronic health records. A key output from SMARTbiomed is software to allow broad application of methods developed across a range of diseases.
