Sian Dennett
CDT student
Sian recently graduated with an integrated master’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Balliol College, Oxford.
Sian’s master’s dissertation investigated the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on deaths caused by screened cancers in the United States. Sian is broadly interested in statistical epidemiology and data science in the healthcare world and is looking forward to learning the more about these areas and their potential impacts to society.
During her undergraduate degree Sian opted to study several machine learning modules, as well as modules with a biological theme such as survival analysis, modelling for genetics, and network analysis. Sian was very fortunate to complete an internship at the Institute of Cancer Research’s Clinical Trials and Statistics unit in the Early Phase and Adaptive Trials team. This was an eye-opening opportunity to work in the world of healthcare research with an excellent cause; it was an exciting experience, and she was very grateful to contribute to her first published work in JAMA Open Oncology.
Beyond the classroom, Sian loves staying active and getting outside particularly to row. Sian also really enjoys cooking and baking for friends and a trip to the pub in the evening.
