Pafue Christy Nganjimi

DPhil Student

I was first introduced to deep learning whilst completing my fourth-year project as part of my Engineering Science degree at the University of Oxford. I looked at mapping homes in sub-Saharan African countries using geospatial images for electrical network design. I most enjoyed the data science aspect of the project so decided to pivot my career towards that field. This led to me doing a 7-month internship at Optellum, a medical AI start-up working towards early-stage diagnosis of lung cancer using machine learning. I was inspired to apply for the HDS CDT whilst at Optellum, surrounded by very intelligent people from whom I learned a lot about data science and its applications to different healthcare problems.

I really like the interdisciplinary approach of the HDS CDT programme, and I am looking forward to learning about different Heath problems that are being tackled from a data perspective and contributing to some of the solutions in coming years.

My interests outside of academia include fashion, reading and exploring different African countries.
