Jackson Harrison is a DPhil Student in Population Health within the SchistoTrack Group at the Big Data Institute, supervised by Professor Goylette Chami and Associate Professor Adrian Smith. His doctoral research investigates the interaction between hepatitis B and Schistosoma mansoni co-infection in Uganda, focusing on their combined contribution to hepatosplenic morbidity. His work aims to identify individuals at greatest risk of progression to severe liver disease and to inform treatment and prevention strategies in endemic settings.

Jackson graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Medicine and completed Basic Physician Training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians at St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney. He also holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Sydney. His previous research includes work with the WHO and UNDP in Viet Nam examining the effects of climate change on neonatal mortality, with the NeoSEAP consortium addressing antimicrobial resistance and neonatal infections in Southeast Asia, and with the Cedar Foundation in Tanzania clinically working in primary care and supporting maternal health service expansion. Outside of work, he enjoys distance running, bouldering, and travelling.
