Charilaos Zisou
MSc MEng
DPhil student
My DPhil is supervised by Professor Aiden Doherty and Professor Jemma Hopewell. I am supported by the Oxford British Heart Foundation Centre for Research Excellence and the Nuffield Department of Population Health, and I hold a titular Clarendon Fund scholarship.
My research revolves around integrating modern digital devices into large-scale epidemiological studies to learn more about the causes and consequences of non-communicable diseases. For my DPhil project, I will concentrate on extracting physical activity profiles from wearable accelerometer data and investigating potential underlying mechanisms of physical activity that lead to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.
Before joining the DPhil Population Health programme, I received a Master of Science in Global Health Science and Epidemiology from the University of Oxford and a Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
