Ben Maylor

Senior researcher

Ben Maylor is a Senior Researcher at Oxford Population Health and the Big Data Institute, University of Oxford, where he works under Aiden Doherty as part of the Wearables Group.

His research focuses on extracting meaningful insights from wearable devices to better understand the role of 24-hour movement behaviours in the prevention and management of chronic disease. He has a growing portfolio of international validation studies aimed at improving the reliability and generalisability of wearable-derived measures across populations and settings.

Ben also works on embedding wearable technologies into clinical trials, supporting the integration of objective behavioural data into clinical and healthcare research.

Prior to joining the University of Oxford in 2024, he spent six years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leicester, where he developed methods for characterising physical behaviours from accelerometer data and evaluated a large multicomponent intervention to reduce daily sitting in office workers.
