Phyllis Isaiah

Phyllis is a research coordinator in Professor Goylette Chami’s Group and is facilitating the running of the SchistoTrack Cohort study, a large-scale collaboration with the Uganda Ministry of Health. She will also collaborate with the group to conduct analyses on schistosomiasis morbidity and its management. The key aim of the research group is to improve the effectiveness of treatment for schistosomiasis by taking a multifaceted approach that combines epidemiology, machine learning, large-scale fieldwork, and community engagement.

Phyllis is an epidemiologist with a primary interest in Neglected Tropical Diseases. She earned her PhD in Epidemiology at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, where she investigated the burden of pediatric schistosomiasis in hard-to-reach Kenyan populations and explored strategies for effective control interventions.

Before her PhD, Phyllis worked with the Division of Vector-Borne and Neglected Tropical Diseases at Kenya’s Ministry of Health, where she coordinated the national schistosomiasis control program. In this role, she led large-scale implementation research projects, supported multidisciplinary teams, and engaged diverse stakeholders to strengthen national disease control efforts.
