Michael Todd

Health Data Scientist

Michael is a Health Data Scientist at the Big Data Institute within Oxford Population Health. As a member of the Chami Group, he contributes to the SchistoTrack cohort study. The project aims to enhance the effectiveness of treatment strategies for schistosomiasis in Uganda.

In his role, Michael manages and analyses complex, multi-dimensional datasets from the Ugandan SchistoTrack Cohort, including survey responses, medical images, and spatio-temporal data, among other sources.

Prior to joining Oxford Population Health, Michael completed a Master’s degree in Health Data Science from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. His thesis, conducted in collaboration with Microsoft Premonition, focused on developing and interpreting AI-based image analysis pipelines using transformer models and convolutional neural networks to classify mosquito species.

Prior to his current role, Michael worked across NHS trusts, contributing to COVID-19 diagnostics and clinical trial coordination. He also gained experience in drug development at GSK and held a part-time research assistant position in food sustainability during his postgraduate studies at LSHTM.

Outside of work, Michael enjoys playing the piano, running, chess, and reading.
