Epidemiology focuses on understanding the causes, distribution, occurrence, and patterns of diseases within populations. Epidemiologists are particularly concerned with defining diseases and their subtypes, as well as identifying data sources to calculate both numerators and denominators for determining disease frequency, patterns, and outcomes (1).
