Informatics

The Oxford NIHR Biomedical Research Centre (Oxford BRC) brings together the research expertise of the University of Oxford and the clinical skills of staff of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Oxford BRC aims to improve healthcare by conducting translational research, which takes laboratory research into a clinical setting, with first-time studies of medical innovations in patients.

Translational research involves acquiring and analysing data from the point of care which can be expensive, time consuming and error prone. The Oxford BRC Clinical Informatics and Big Data theme exists to reduce the costs of data, and hence increase the scalability, reproducibility and impact of translational research. The clinical informatics and big data team is based in the Big Data Institute.
