Automated cell phase analysis of live cells over extended time periods requires both novel assays and automated image analysis algorithms. We approach the tracking problem as a spatio-temporal volume segmentation problem, where the 2D slices are stacked into a volume with time as the z dimension. This extended abstract gives an overview of our approach and outlines how a robust tracking system for high-throughput screening can be designed. © 2008 IEEE.
